Flappy Bird

Now I know what you're thinking with that title. "Matthew, why are you trying to troll us? This is a horror game blog, and Flappy Bird is definitely not a horror game." While that is true, a lot of people I know are scared of this game, or at least are scared to try it just because of what it is. Basically, you're a bird and when you click the screen, you flap upward, and if you're not pushing at all, you start going down. Pipes are in your path leaving holes that you must fit through, and if you hit a pipe or the floor, you lose. Your score is basically the number of holes you got through. Why is this game so addictive? So hard? So scary? Honestly, I can't answer that, but if you're faint at heart, or easy to make angry, DO NOT TRY THIS GAME.

Scary Rating: 3/10
Awesomeness Rating: 5/10
Innovation Rating: 8/10 (So simple, but so original)

One Late Night

So, it's another night in the office, but you're awfully busy today and got a lot to do, so you decide to stay later than usual to make sure you get it all done. You're finally done with your work and decide that you should really get home, but something doesn't feel right, so you explore your office area, and that's when weird stuff starts to happen. This is a very simple adventure horror game where you can't really do much except for interacting with things that you find, and basically setting off event after event that leads you through the game, to whatever end you may end up with. Sometimes you must hide, sometimes you must find batteries so that you have light, and sometimes, well, hopefully you don't end up like that!

Vanish (Update(Full Version))

Nearly 1 year ago, in one of my first blog posts for this, I talked about a game called Vanish. While making that post, I was unable to play the game because the screen was always just black the whole way through, and the only thing I knew about it was what Markiplier went through in his video. Many months later, Markiplier played it probably 10-15 times, finally beat, and I finally played it until I beat it, so I will talk about the full version that just came out allowing Markiplier to beat it, and me to play it.

In the updated version, you're tossed into this sewer like series of hallways with the plan probably being that you slowly die. While in here, you try to find the keys to the door, and then find your way to the door to free yourself. Sounds simple right? It's not that simple. First off, the coolest part of this game is that it's not only randomly generated, but every so often the level just randomly changes, meaning you can't just trace a path to get to the keys and then just go back the way you came. Also, there are sewer creatures that live in this area that are blind, but are very strong with hearing, so if you run towards one, it will run towards you, but huddle in a corner, and you should be safe. There are many other things including holes in the walls that can be just straight forward, glowsticks that you find in some generator rooms, and notes left by some random people. This game is very scary with the disturbing music, the erie feeling, and the random events that won't all kill you, but easily catch you off guard. Honestly, this is one of the best and scariest games I've ever beaten, and I'm surprised I didn't have a heart attack before I finally beat it.

Innovation Rating: 10/10 (Randomly generated, and randomly changes while you play, holy crap)
Scary Rating: 9/10 (Plenty of things to keep you on your feet from start to end)
Awesomeness Rating: 9/10 (only a few bugs keep it from perfection)

3D Labyrinth

This is as simple as it gets when you're making a horror game, and it's only slightly considered a horror game. Basically, you're given 5 different mazes to pick from, and you have to go through them in hopes of finding the end. This is simple, but if you want to keep yourself on your feet, they have a mode where you can turn on jumpscares, and trust me, you really stay on your feet with them on. This is a game that is only considered a horror game in my eyes if you have that mode on, but even with it off it has a good atmosphere to make you prepared for something. If you want a basic and fun game that you can make scary if you want, this is not a bad game to choose.

Scary Rating: 4/10
Awesomeness Rating: 5/10
Innovation Rating: 2/10
Replay: Ratings may be low, but definitely worth keeping.
